Colonial Governments do not appear to have any responsibility; and others are not supported by passenger lists and therefore require further investigation.
4. Meanwhile the Ministry was requested to submit revised claims totalling £16,481 in respect of the persons identified from the nominal rolls in the Colonial Office as
belonging to the Far Eastern Colonial Territories. The revised claim amounting to £11,380 in respect of persons identified as belonging to the territory under your administration, together with the nominal roll, is enclosed herewith.
5. The Nominal roll may include & small evacuee element of dependants who joined their husbands while en route to the United Kingdom, in which circumstance you may wish to consider whether the costs of the passages of any persons originally sent to Australia under the 1940 evacuation scheme should be extracted for inclusion in the final audited statement of account to be rendered to me.
6. I much regret that you were not informed earlier of the Ministry of Transport's claims but it has only recently proved possible to analyse some part of them. Should the Ministry be able to provide further particulars in regarâ to persons at present unidentifiable it is possible that a further claim will be raised against Colonial Governments.
